Today ’s photos are from Doug Florey , who we visited for the first sentence in June 2014 ( refresh your memoryHERE . ) Today he says,“We started planting daffodils en masse about 10 years ago , and each fall we put in a few hundred more . Although I love some of the more alien - looking one , we have found that many of these are not as reliable as some of the onetime ducky when it comes to naturalizing , so lately we have been planting mostly ' Mt. Hood ' , ' King Alfred ' , ' Salome ' , and ' Ice Follies ' . The cervid , squirrel , chipmunk , and Marmota monax steer clear of them , and the bunch raise expectant each year , so we feel they ’re a great investment , especially after a long , grey , Pittsburgh winter ! In several of the beds , we ’ve interplanted the daffs with day lily or peony . This has worked well , since the daylilies and peonies tend to hide out the yellow foliage of the daffodils , which reduce my impulse to make out the dying farewell back ( despite knowing I should n’t ! ) . Hopefully these exposure will brighten up your days the same way other gardeners ’ photos have brighten mine . “Oh Doug . So skillful . Only another couple of months til Narcissus pseudonarcissus clip . Will we make it ? suspiration . So stale … .. * * * Doug promised to send LOTS of peony pic later in the time of year – let ’s hold him to it ! * * *
