Ouch . That is n’t going to make it without an interference . Beneath the fragile outer back of a tree are the vessel that bring weewee and nutrients up and down the trunk from the stem to the peak and back again .

So , not having any option other than surgical operation or letting the tree die , I chose to try and “ bridge graft ” across the damage area . This requires cutting and colligate some cartoon strip of healthy living bark from the tree trunk below to the trunk above .

Here ’s a piece of hefty bark cut from another Eriobotrya japonica tree . In the background , you’re able to see another piece I cut and confiscate . It conduct a sure hired man , a razorblade and some kind of graft tape .

Bridge grafting loquat may not be pretty… but hopefully this tree pulls through.

I turn out three patch and attached them to the trunk , cutting another half in or more above and below the wound and popping in the Modern pieces of barque .

Bridge grafting Japanese plum may not be pretty … but hopefully this tree pulls through .

It still looks “ ouch ” and I ’m not sure this will work , but it ’s better than doing nothing . After attaching the pieces , I wrapped the entire wound area with squeamish , buddy-buddy pieces of electrical tape .
