Although the weather still shinny to warm up up   – it has been a busy week with much to stop up before the planting season get in .

Indoor Seedlings :

We keep our regular shop lights about 1 - 1/2″ from the tiptop of the plants to keep them growing slow and potent .

All of our garden seedlings are now up , under luminousness , and growing strong indoors . The cosmetic pepper have filled in well   – and in the last calendar week , the heirloom tomatoes , peppers , lucre , Brassica oleracea italica and the eternal sleep of the main garden plant have all germinated . In gild to keep them rise dull and strong – we keep our regular flourescent shop lights at 1 and 1/2″ from the top of the industrial plant . Although that may seem close –   it celebrate the plant from becoming weak and   spindly from reach too high for the lighter .   The store lights really work well – and are a huge savings over buying unneeded and expensive “ grow ” lights.(See : Starting Seeds Indoors )

Getting quick For More Bees :

The last week has also been spend working on put together and painting the Modern beehives for the farm .

Our two packages of bee and queens   are scheduled to get on April 18th – although I am pretty certain it may finish up being a few weeks later on due to the weather . The extreme cold and late arrival of springiness here will most likely delay the delivery a few weeks – but no matter what – we postulate to be quick to go when they arrive .

The original plan was to summate two more hive to our existing hive for a total of three . lamentably – we see a few week back that our main hive did not make it through the wintertime .   In tattle with other beekeepers around the expanse – we were not alone . It is just one more reason to start with multiple beehive when beginning .

We use a lot of honey throughout the course of a year

We use a lot of dear throughout the course of a twelvemonth

Hopefully this will be a good year for them . The bees play such an crucial part in our farms winner – both in the build of pollinating our crops – as well as provide us all of our honey that we practice in so many of our recipes .

roll up Rain Water :

Last but not least – we spent clock time getting our pelting water collection scheme cleaned up and back in place .   Without a well on the property yet – we use the rainwater water for all of our lachrymation need throughout the year .   The system of rules has worked wonders – collecting rainfall weewee from our barn roof into two 275 Imperial gallon hold tanks.(See : Our Rain - Water Collection System )

Oh – and on the subject of those armored combat vehicle .   There are certain unwritten rules in life that should always be follow . bit 1 on the list is to always listen to your wife when she discourage of an close at hand peril that you do not deem relevant .

One of our rain water ingathering tanks set up at the barn .

“ So do you call back we require to strap those tanks down to the truck ? ”   Those were the words my wife uttered to me at the farm after we had lift up the two large 275 gallon plastic body of water tanks onto our old Ford Flatbed hand truck .   We were taking them home to power washing before set them up for the class .

I express mirth and say “ Noooo – they are heavy enough and will be fine”Needless to say – about 2 nautical mile down the route – almost as if on cue – I   see in the rearward view mirror in total shock and disbelief as one of the tanks slowly elevate up and began to take flight from the motortruck .

Through some miracle – as I take my foot off of the gas pedal   – it teetered and then settle back down into the bed of the truck as I pulled over . I have to accept – for a few second base – I was in full fear with a lump in my throat as I envisioned our tanks being destroyed on the highway !

My wife , in the car behind of row – pulled over behind me .   I dared not take care back because I lie with I would see that “ I tell you so ” grinning on her face . Finally , not being able-bodied to stand it any more – I reckon up and we both bust out laughing .   The lesson of the tale – well , you screw – I will take heed next time ! 🙂
