After I posted the recent blog on fire cider, I received a request for this recipe–so here it is.

Elderberry and Fire Cider ElixirSusan Belsinger

This elixir is well known amongst herbalists and has been made by many of us for age now . Check out this easy recipe – I make this every fall after I reap my horseradish – to use throughout the winter months for a universal tonic and to avail fight cold and influenza . The creator of this recipe is Rosemary Gladstar ; the first time I taste Fire Cider Vinegar was when I took her Herbal Apprentice Course in 2004 and have been making my own version ever since .

To make flaming cider , I rankle the horseradish and gingerroot , chop up the garlic and Allium cepa and mince the chile peppers . Add the large amount of chile pepper if you like it hot . I sometimes add elderberries for an extra boost for the resistant system – it does make it a darker color . I do n’t really measure – just sort of travel along the formula loosely – I usually double the recipe so I have plenty for my category and some to apportion .

I seek to think back to throw off it daily and let it steep for anywhere from 4 to 8 calendar week – although if I necessitate it I apply it even after just 24 hour of extract . Sometimes , I stress it off and other times , I just decant it as needed . Some folks wish to add a small bit of dearest to make it more toothsome , which also is great for coughs or a scratchy throat . I take it straight by the teaspoonful , however it can be diluted with water or a mo of succus .

Makes about 1 generous quartAbout 1/2 cupful fresh grated horseradish root1 bulb garlic ; cloves uncase and choppedAbout 1 cup chop onionAbout 1/2 cup grated gingerroot1 or 2 jalapeno pepper ( any live chilli will do ) , fresh or dried , chop , or about 1 teaspoonful ground cayenneScant 1/2 cup dried elderberries or about 1 cup fresh elderberries1 sweet Citrus limon , halved lengthwise and sliced crosswiseAbout 1 to 1 1/2 quarts organic apple cider vinegar1/2 to 1 cup local honey

Place all ingredients in a great jar ( needs to be bragging than a dry quart to hold all of the botanical ingredients ) and hide with Malus pumila cyder acetum . varnish with non - metal palpebra . unconscionable for 8 weeks , shake it daily if you think about it .

( If you want to use some before the 8 workweek infusion time is up - just pour some out as needed - it is even full the first week ) . When ready , strain , conjure on the marc to release all of the essences , into a light jar . chicken love the leftover botanical marc and so does the compost pile .

Add dearest to taste if trust ; about 1/2 loving cup is enough for me though some care to add a cup or so . overcompensate tightly and recording label jolt . Take a spoonful everyday . When I ’m finger dusty , sensitive throat or flu symptom - I take it by the shotglass a few clock time a day - sip easy and countenance it mix with saliva before swallowing .
