Cutler to bestow one of his own to the garden behind his 1920s Spanish Colonial revival family in the Hollywood Hills . He commissioned Lory Johansson — ofJust Joh , a Los Angeles - ground design studio — who had already manage the home ’s interior refurbishment . Johansson has designed out-of-door area for Richard Branson ’s exclusiveNecker Islandin the Caribbean , but this was her first outdoor project for a private blank . She took a 20 - by-30 - understructure former parking arena along the street and transformed it into an outdoor dining area , sodding with an lambert - forge kitchen , dining pavilion and bar field , all enclosed by a stucco wall painted terra cotta red to match the house ’s ceiling tiles . A : R.J. had gone to a friend ’s political party in Venice and came back and said : “ Hey ! I require an outside pizza oven . ” We had been speak about expanding the garden to let in a dining country where the parking area was . He was fine to give up that extra parking and capture that space as an outdoor kitchen . We designed the kitchen so he could interact with all the people sitting in the outdoor livelihood room , which is adjacent to the cooking region . Q : What are the kitchen ’s master feature film ?
A : The kitchen has a very strong connection to the house and outdoor living room . The main feature is the tradition - designedEarthStonepizza oven . We buy it already made , and it await almost like an igloo made out of cinderblocks . We chose to arrange it with a placid finish plaster and make it appear as if it were growing out of the wall .
Q : Were there any issues / factors that helped inform the position of the kitchen ?

A : Shadescape umbrellas , a teak plank dining table from Indonesia with terrace seats , and a banquette built into the raw stucco wall . An herbaceous plant garden beneath the patio tree diagram was planted for grilling spices , and we plant heap for mojitos in two spots flanking the staircase that goes into the house . The countertops are granite and were install with overhead string lights and Task lighting .
