Appreciating the beauty as things go dormant

Today we ’re in Lake Bluff , Illinois ( due north of Chicago ) , natter Nicki Snoblin ’s garden .

I am often attracted to pristine garden bed take with coloured and unblemished flowers and foliage . This is real living , however , and my garden rarely look that manner . It ’s been really helpful to me to follow GPOD and see what other people find beautiful in their own garden . I ’m instruct to appreciate the smasher in my very imperfect fall garden . Here are some examples .

The back recess of my yard includes floweringdogwood(Cornus florida , Zones 5–9 ) andligularia(Ligularia dentata , Zones 3–8 ) in the foreground andTiger Eyes sumac(Rhustyphina‘Tiger Eyes ’ , Zones 4–8 ) in back .

Interesting bark on the dogwood

The fantastic back corner , with sumac brightening it up . That ’s hyacinth bean(Dolichoslablab , annual ) on the trellis ( which I put up to attempt to obnubilate the utility pole ) , but it never bloomed . On the left in the foreground is aweigela(Weigela florida , Zones 5–9 ) .

Nipponese maple(Acer palmatum , Zones 5–9 ) and some come up rosehip

Now to the front yard : in the foreground , a modest hydrangea(probablyHydrangea macrophylla‘Wedding Gown ’ , Zones 5–9 ) ; beyond that , anazalea(Rhododendronhybrid ) I ’ve had for many years .

Two blue hollies(Ilex× meserveae , Zones 4–9 ) are implant together : ‘ Castle Wall’(male)and ‘ Castle Spire’(female , with berries ) .

AHeucherella ( × Heucherella , Zones 4–9 ) begins to convert color with the cool weather .

An angel wing begonia(Begoniahybrid , zona 9–11 or as an one-year ) has been battered by malarkey and storms but is pose around to the bitter ending ( rime is expected in a few days ) . On the leftfield is a Nipponese maple ; on the right hand , Japanese forest grass(Hakonechloamacra , Zones 5–9 ) .

It ’s about fourth dimension to put my gnome garden to bed for the winter . It ’s in a windowpane box on the shed ; I could never keep plant awake there .

Our “ summer star sign ” transforms into an “ autumn business firm ” when we remove the tabletop and switch to the firepit .
