No .. I do n’t reckon so . Though you may not be able to garden completely without irrigation , I do think you’re able to lower your garden water usage considerably by changing your methods .

Until I did more research , I had always assumed the across-the-board row spacing of traditional gardens had more to do with the indigence for using tractor and mechanized equipment than anything else . seemingly , I was improper .

This spring , to test the musical theme that plant take much less water when space further apart , I plant a large patch of maize at 6″ spacing in 3′ rows . I have n’t water it ( except for the fluent fertilizer mix I poured along the roots every week or two ) and it ’s doing excellently thus far on nothing but rain . I also planted bush attic spaced 6″ apart in row space 18″ wide . Though they ’re not as happy as the corn , only some have kicked off .

I ’ll keep you all posted on my effect . I ’m going to do further trial on gardening without irrigation , since one of the bragging drawbacks of advanced gardening is the clock time it take to water , not to cite the water itself .
