Gymnocalycium paediophilumis a little cactus with pallid green stems with 7 to 10 ribs lined with areoles that accept clusters of spines . It ramify extravagantly from the home . The stems are spherical to short cylindrical and can produce up to 8 in ( 20 cm ) tall and 4.8 column inch ( 12 centimeter ) in diameter . Each areole acquit one central thorn and 5 to 9 radial rachis . The radial spikelet are reddish - brown , becoming grey with a brownish tip as they mature , measure up to 1.2 inches ( 30 cm ) long , while the central spine is grayish with a darker brownish point , measuring up to 1.6 inches ( 4 atomic number 96 ) long .

The flowers are white to pale pink with a red throat and can reach up to 3.2 inches ( 8 cm ) in length and diam . They seem in summertime , followed by oval to spherical , green to blue - light-green fruit .
