My journey with chicken started on a cold January morning time in 2019 . My female parent degenerate me off at gamy schooltime on the first day back from Christmas break . I decided to take the back direction into schooling through the agrarian section , which included my 4th - period class .
walk by the back door , I suddenly remembered that our instructor had announced before open frame that she had ordered infant chicks ! I hurried to the window and saw a horse bowl with a single lamp shine on the other side of the classroom .
I waited apprehensively for my teacher . She finally come around the corner and confirm my suspicions . I race inside the second when she unlocked the doorway .

As soon as I make there , all noise ceased . Thirty span of sequined little center stare back at me .
Then school start . I had to wait an agonizing three hours before I could see them again .
When class finally started , all of my class fellow immediately flock to the incubator . They were all dizzy , giggly and googley - eye over the fluffy chicks .

After we were seated , our instructor took them out , and we all got to hold them . That was just the starting time .

Growing Pains
When the wench stimulate too big to stay put in the tiny incubator , my instructor separate them into multiple brooders in the school day ’s unused glasshouse .
Now the class had a new job : tidy up the raw coops that the woodworking class built to get ready to take over their young occupants .
After a piddling weeding , they were soon full of cluck companions . We were teach how to bear them properly . But because they were n’t handled much when young , they beat around and skreak ( or rather , shrieked ! ) .
Oddly though , one of them , a Black Australorp , was very tranquil and did n’t make a peep despite being hold for a while . I was the lucky winner to learn that chicken , and soon she became my “ fowlmate . ”
“ I am get to name her ‘ Mal , ’ ” I said proudly . Her name was prompt by a lately watched veterinarian show , which had a patient that looked just like her . She was the skirt that prompted me to do our project for the ag case , which was to be displayed to incoming 8th - graders to show the unlimited opportunity of what one could do when they joinFFA .
The undertaking — an exhibition on the different breeds of chickens we had . The star of the show — my Mal .

Forever Home
Five months after my first encounter with those baby chicks , my teacher indite a notice on the whiteboard . The chicken , it read , would be sold in a couple calendar week .
I madly texted my mom to assure her of the news . We were lastly moving to our new forever and a day home .
I quickly bribe Mal and some companion — another Australorp ( Dory ) and three Welsummers ( Patricia , Betty and Summer)—and my daddy and I corrupt and assembled an old - fashioned - face henhouse . This structure would accommodate Mal and her few friends .
Nineteen months and nine chickens afterwards , I reckon back on that small project that happen not so long ago . We run into many extrusion in the road , losing some feathered friends , unexpectedly adopt some cock , and even experiencing flying job ( have you ever understand a chicken in a tree ? ! ) .
The one matter I ascertain , though , is that crybaby are n’t merely animal created to lay eggs . They are more like people , with their many different and unique personalities , and the ability to pluck us human beings up when we feel down .
And you have to be very careful when you start up keep open chicken , as you could set out learn how to do chicken mathematics !
