Much of the husbandry we see sweep up dying and destruction in order of magnitude to get a yield . The “ enemies ” of a craw are spray with poisons . The primer coat is beaten into submission and soak with chemical fertiliser .
The tiny living creatures which attempt to live in these playing field get hold themselves in a unsafe and inhospitable place . Bees get poisoned , wanderer get crushed , dirt ball get chop into pieces , etc .
It ’s hard to farm intellectual nourishment on a large graduated table without causing a certain amount of devastation . seek to avoid killing anything is difficult and may not even be a right finish , as some thing just need killing . I ca n’t imagine grow enough corn whiskey for all the tortilla chip deplete during an American summertime without grownup tilled fields fill with row of corn fed by chemical fertiliser and harvest with specialised equipment that cares nothing for the tiny life of ladybugs and Cancer the Crab spider .
But in a backyard garden there ’s no want to guy everything . Instead , we should embrace and encourage life , with the notable exception of the squirrels that steal our heirloom corn . We knowwhat to do with those .
Overall , I wish lots of spirit in my garden . It ’s majuscule to see butterfly stroke , bees , beetles , spider , devil’s darning needle , praying mantises , toads , lizards and worms . Yeah , we have some leaf - hoof bugs and cabbage moths , but they are n’t huge issues . The sheer amount of plant coinage and hiding places for marauder keep things somewhat under control . This does n’t look like a distinctive row garden and does n’t have the same pesterer problems either .
We had worse problems last free fall and in early outflow before we built ourGrocery Row Gardensand added all the other plant species . Look at the movie above and imagine how many hiding places there are in there ! Then guess all the tooth root in the earth and the micro - life that those roots bring . Lots and luck and bunch of living .
If I were to spray malathion now it would be a sacrilege . I ’d kill countless effective guys . The garden are now beyond that . It ’s not a monoculture organisation that involve tilling and spraying . It ’s developed into a timberland edge polyculture . God ’s design is taking over and the check and balances are falling into place .
