By late afternoon , it ’s a switcheroo !
I ’ve opt plants that treat both extremum , though I ’m still aline to unify the den seam on the left hand with the island bed to the right . That trap on the right represents a lamb ’s ear that cratered in summer ’s warmth and drouth . Soon , I ’ll separate one of the others to fill that spot . Sometimes , those little lambs kick back up their blackguard !
Native frogfruit ( Phyla nodiflora ) roll with the lighting punches to soften the Arizona Buckskin sandstone .

This workweek , Daphne makes it her plant life of the Week , for its evergreen plant hardiness and resilience in rainfall bombs . Here ’s a lovely raised bed cascade I pick out atShoal Creek Nursery .
It ’s about as drouth tough as they get along . Even in my mud soil , it ’s the perfect curbside fellow traveller underneath The Fairy rise . They thrive in the late afternoon grueling sun and reflected heat from the street .

Over the yr , I ’ve relied on book byMary Irishto guide me . I ’m thrilled about her latest , Texas Getting take off Guide , pickle - throng with beautiful exposure by Gary Irish . Once again , she steps into our garden shoes , anticipate our questions and answer ones we did n’t even know to need !

She and Tom pick a few plants to play up , like nativeCalylophus berlandieri .
Find out why some of our drought - response succulent choices have cratered in rain bombs , especially in wintertime .
Mary ’s no unknown to drouth , after solve 11 years at theDesert Botanical Gardenin Phoenix . I love her book , A Place All Our Own , that journals how she and Gary land in the desert and started a new garden chapter .

Perhaps that ’s why she knows how to connect with us so well ! Her book , Agaves , Yuccas and Related plant , launch my pedagogy about these plant . I refer to it constantly for designation , frigid lustiness , and habit .

Now , I never knew this : John tells us that some , like Narcissus ‘ Inbal ’ , must be push in soil , not in crushed rock and water , while yellow-bellied Narcissus ‘ Grand Soleil d’Or can be plant in ornamental gravel .
On tour , Kathleen Lorsbach learn a fresh flora lexicon when she and her phratry moved to Texas from Minnesota .
