SixOnSaturday
There is a definite theme of propagation through much of my Six on Saturday this week . I am living up to my nickname . What will you share in your # SixOnSaturday ? Could be anything – a flower , a tool , a pestilence , a job to do , a harvest , plans , anything at all . Join in !
Here are my six for this workweek .

1 – Crocosmia seedling . On a recent visit to a beautiful garden I liberated a few seeds of crocosmia Lucifer . They just came off in my hand guv . They should be seed fresh , so with somewhat scummy expectation I sowed them straight out , just in a tray of compost , top dressed with grit . Sown on 22nd October they are now begin to germinate .
2 – Weigela leaves . I grew this small weigela from a hardwood carving . I do n’t know why really as I do n’t specially love the parent bush . nevertheless I have planted it in one of the new border . It is still small , just a understructure high if that . I pruned it for shape over the summer , so it ought to spring up on nicely next class .
3 – Hypericum , St John ’s Wort , “ wizard Universe ” . In an all - too - common tantrum of buy enthusiasm ( in the same garden visit that give the crocosmia seeded player ) I bribe a young bush that I did n’t need , then immediately take two cutting which have both rooted nicely , cater another two plant that I do n’t ask . I shall pot these blighter over the weekend , we ’ll see if they make it through the winter . I have a much larger hypericum in the front garden , different sort . This one should be quite stocky if I prune it decently , getting to perhaps 60 centimeter . It ’ll flower June and July then has smart red fruit in August and September .

4 – More plants , pot up . Last week I squeal ( that seems to be the appropriate countersign ) to rate a cluster of young perennial along with my electric light rescript . The price are very reasonable , so long as you want at least 5 , sometimes 10 , of something . I spent a couple of hours last Sunday potting up the multitude . They do n’t look like much just now but should all spring into biography in the , er , spring . I was interested to observe that some were very obviously divisions , single crownlets of a larger works . Certainly that was true of the genus Hosta and genus Helenium . I suppose in my head I was expect cud - produce seedlings , and some are . I do n’t mind , in fact the divisions will likely be much better . I have to report that the photo shows about half of the plant . Eek .
5 – Japanese windflower , root press cutting . annoy by their refusal to spread , I have taken issue into my own hands . A few workweek back I took dug up one of the plants and , sacrifice it to the greater good , hack up the good chunks of root . Into a endeavor of gritty compost they go , vertically with top of root part just below the aerofoil of the compost . Today I see the first signs of life . Still tiny , these shoots are a coquette , no root will have happened yet , but the root section have plenty of food substitute . I do n’t require to have evidence of root until the natural spring .
6 – Colour ! A rarity in my garden at this time of year ( if we except brown and fleeceable ) , I was a little surprised to see this patio rose has thrown a new bud . Whether it ever opens is another thing .

Have a splendid weekend , trust you get some gardening in , and do n’t forget to check out back in as more liaison are bring during the day .
I ’ll be back next weekend with another # SixOnSaturday .
