veggie
I have 3 raised beds at the back of the garden , each 8×4 , divided into 2 foot squares . I ’ve grown veg in these beds sporodically and with miscellaneous results for a few years now . This twelvemonth , I ’m transition to no - dig , in an attempt to maximise cropping . I mulch where I could using spent mushroom-shaped cloud compost , and will do the respite as the square get harvested .
Here is what ’s decease on in the plot of land .

Not yet sown , still languishing in the tub .
Sown , not yet pullulate .
latterly planted out

Local blackfly farm, proprieter a Mr Ant.
Beetroot Boltardy . Bought a tray of seedlings in my local garden midpoint . Very cheap , piles of seedling . unmannered not to . I implant those out , amply occupying a 2′ public square . I ’ve plausibly outdo the recommended planting distance , but these are meant to be harvest at golfball sizing so I should be o.k. .
Leek Musselburgh . I grew a tray of these in modules , then doubled down and bought a tray in the garden centre for £ 1 . Really primitive not to , there must have been over 50 leeks in that tray . They had load of them , so I was proud of to curb myself to just one tray . They were quite small and thus a moment fiddly to plant out , but it ’s done . I ’ve grow this variety before , very mere , just leave them to it once in the ground .
Lettuce , various . I begin off 4 variety in module a couple of weeks ago , they got planted out in the last couple of days . They are interest about 3 squares between them , including the space leave next to the climb beans . With the successional sowing I did today that ’s 4 squares in total , so if I can keep Mr Slug aside , we should be pretty ego - sufficient in the salad leaves department .

Local blackfly farm, proprieter a Mr Ant.
Swede . I ’ve not develop rutabaga before , giving it a endeavour . These were sown in modules and institute out a day or two ago , taking up a whole 2′ second power . I may require to thin them out a little mo , we ’ll see .
None of these is specially picture - worthy at nowadays , they can feature next time .
Growing off

Carrot ‘ Jeanette ’ – these are doing nicely in their feather bed ( I seived a whole square and add Amandine Aurore Lucie Dupin and compost ) . I also recently erected a fly roadblock using some mesh I establish in the shed . I ’ve just stapled it to some battening that I bashed into the ground . The bottom is already 1 pes off the solid ground and this beastie circumference is about 2′ high , so 3 human foot in total . Should be enough , the carrot stem fly does n’t vaporize very well , I get together . The only thing these carrots could possibly object to now is that I transplanted them from modules , which folklore has it , they do n’t appreciate . We shall see .
Broad edible bean – these are getting a second mullered by blackfly , but I am getting some pods forge . Hope to get a decent harvest .
Borlotti beans – these are climbing away up their netting which straddles two of the beds .

Runner noggin – flippin ’ bullet keep scything these down as they come out of the ground . A few rich I have made it past the voluptuous , easy to gain stagecoach , so I may get some cropping plant out of the two sowings so far . I ’ve also sown some more in root - trainers , which I ’ll transplant once they are strapping fellas .
spud – Earlies and mains . All in bags , all develop away like crazy . It ’s only 4 , maybe 5 week till I can harvest the earlies . Looking forward to see what sort of craw I get this year . I can recommend this method acting of growing in hammock ( actually empty compost bag ) , it ’s square and less outer space - exhaust than the traditional method .
Brassica rapa ‘ Milan ’ . I still do n’t like to run through turnips , but they seem to be growing out happily despite that insult to their kin .

Spring cabbage – winter in situ , these are now fairly brawny industrial plant . I think they may just be forming heads , although I could be imagining it .
Onions – overwintered in situ , I think these are catch close to harvest time - ready . The foliage has flopped over . They are not huge onions , but then I plant them middling close .
Snap peas – busy rise up their last / cane arrangement . They ’re still small , but it is a dwarf variety that does n’t get high than 60 cm . I ’m hope these are less of a pain than the pod pea plant I grow last twelvemonth , which were a lot of effort for not a lot of pea .

tomato plant , 3 varieties . I ’ve pot on to next size weed . Thebajaja’swhich were sow first , are now in 2 cubic decimeter pots , with theailsa craigsandsweet millionsnow in 1 liter lot . I ’ll permit them produce into those bay window for a hebdomad or two , then either found them out into net positions or pot on again . look how impatient I am . I have a trial in judgment for the Lycopersicon esculentum this yr , looking at watering method . More on that in a later post .
Courgettes – I ’ve been excitedly preparing to grow these vertically up some treillage , to prevent them have over the whole bed . Amusingly , I discover that , on inspect more closely the packet , this miscellanea is a thickset one , bush forming . So , it ’s diminished and probably wo n’t climb . Sigh . Oh well , best laid plans and all that .
parsnip – allegedly a temperamental plant , these seem to be spring up off quite happily .

Dug up & composted .
carrot . I forget the variety , and frankly I want to forget the experience of develop them too . What a expectant fat waste of clock time . They expire to seed , run out , and the resulting ascendant were a express mirth livestock . They are on the compost heap , suitably buried . I am not enjoying the experience of growing carrots .
I have yield fit too , I think I ’ll do a freestanding post on those .

What do you have going on in your vegetable plot ?
I ’ll be back with another veggie update in a couple of weeks .
